Alfredo Jaar
Hé ram
1991
Seriograph on mirror
96 1/16 x 96 1/16 x 3/16 in.

"Chilean artist Alfredo Jaar works with issues of perception. He often uses mirrors, light boxes, and illuminated frames to alter the way art is traditionally viewed. The impression on the mirror in Hé ram is ever-changing, depending on the viewer’s stance. Hé ram’s politically charged text contrasts positive and negative values, encouraging the spectator to think critically. Jaar’s work effects a visual and conceptual displacement that underscores the tenuous nature of perception."
