„A kiállítás olyan életműveket, illetve életművek egyes periódusaiból válogatott műveket gyűjt egybe az 1950-es évek elejétől az 1980-as évek közepéig, melyek a figuratív-látomásos realizmus különböző változatait képviselik. Zömmel olyan nonkonform művészekről van szó, akik csak kényszerűen, alkalmilag (és sikertelenül) vagy sehogyan sem illeszkedtek a korszak hivatalos-intézményes művészeti életéhez, és utóbb kívül maradtak a hatvanas évektől megindult újavantgárd mozgalmakon is. A hivatalos művészetfelfogás számára „formalizmusuk”, „szürrealizmusuk” volt elfogadhatatlan; az újavantgárd számára – a hard edge, a pop-art majd a konceptualizmus perspektívájából – figuratív-látomásos-narratív képfelfogásuk tűnt korszerűtlennek. Evvel a „kettős kirekesztettséggel” többnyire együtt járt a marginalizáltság, s következett belőle utóbb a – kilencvenes évektől a modernizmus (elsősorban a hatvanas-hetvenes évek újavantgárd mozgalmainak) szemszögéből újraírt – művészettörténeti kánonból való kimaradás.
A jelenséghez sorolható egyetlen mester, akit a hazai kánon befogadott: a hetvenes évek végén felfedezett Román György. A többiek sorsa a gyakran pszichotikus traumákhoz, tragédiákhoz is vezető értetlenség, társtalanság, elfeledettség lett. A Kassán illetve Losoncon alkotó Jakoby Gyula és Szabó Gyula pályájuk különböző szakaszaiban aktív résztvevői voltak a csehszlovákiai művészeti életnek anélkül, hogy művészetük akárcsak regionális kontextusba is került volna. Igazi jelentőségük felismerése a nyolcvanas évekhez köthető.
A kiállítás kísérlet egy mindeddig észrevétlenül maradt értékteremtő folyamat, egy lappangó festészeti tendencia összefüggéseinek kitapintására és rekonstrukciójára.”

Many decades after the appearance of Mabillon’s great De re diplomatica, two later Maurists, C.F. Toustain (1700-54) and R.P. Tassin (1697-1777) undertook to expand the scope of the original work in this French study containing many more palaeographical samples. Published anonymously, the Nouveau traité exemplified the collaborative spirit of Maurist scholarship: just as Mabillon collaborated with and then completed the work of Luc d’Achery on the Acta sanctorum, and Martène completed Mabillon’s work on the Annales, so Toustain and Tassin collaborated on the Nouveau traité, which was left to Tassin to complete after Toustain’s death.
